This is the Bible of Judo – superb explanations and action photographs that give the reader an impression of the impetus required to carry out the techniques. Every Judoka should own one. Jamie MacDonald
There is something here for all grades of Judoka. It is probably most useful for a relative beginner (10th – 3rd Kyu) but there are some interesting variations on techniques particular to the authors styles that even Dan grades may find instructive. This book covers the basics of judo very well then goes into a decent amount of depth on a few key moves. Techniques are clearly illustrated with lots of pictures, all well shot and expertly staged. The authors clearly explain and highlight the key movements in each technique offering useful tips and possible variations. Counter attacks and combination techniques are discussed and the authors succeed in offering real insight into the art of Judo, the mechanics of the human body and the mind of the fighter. One of the best overall Judo books around. Consider also Attacking Judo and Kodokan Judo.
